Day 2: Thursday, 11 March 1999

Ian, Marie

Went Cross-Country Skiing in the Morning

Moose
One of the two moose we saw.

Marie and I got up kind of late. Seth and Robert were already off to go snowboarding by the time that I got up.

When Ken came back from dropping them off, Marie and I went and rented cross-country skis down at a little store in Wilson. Ken drove us a couple of miles up the road to the snake river where we set off skiing.

During the two hours or so that we skied, we saw four other people, two dogs, and two moose. And since we saw the two moose twice (on the way out and on the way back), it was almost like seeing four moose.

The moose were just wandering about in the woods trying to find any little bit of anything to eat. They pretty much ignored us. While we were watching, one of them decided to move to a patch of shrubs a little further away, so we got to see it bounding through the snow. It's a very odd movement--one that I wouldn't expect from that big an animal.

After getting a hefty sunburn, we headed back. Ken picked us up and gave us a lift back to the house.

Had Lunch; I Shoveled Snow, Marie Slept

When we got back, we fixed a bit of lunch.

After that, I shoveled some snow. Played with Buddy. Ken and Karen made dinner.
